history: This is pretty full-on comprehensive.

personality: At first meeting Leonardo will come off as generally cheerful and friendly; he's an incredibly difficult person to dislike, unless you object vehemently to procrastination. He's steadfast in his friendships but fickle with almost everything else; paying him is a good way to get him to finish something eventually, and threatening his life is a great way to get him complete almost anything quickly.

That said, he reads voraciously, paints masterfully, and experiments habitually. This has led him to be sought out by both the Assassins and the Templar Order, though the latter doesn't get their hands on him until Brotherhood. While he himself abhors violence, he seems to have no problem crafting weapons for others; he's the one who fixed Ezio's hidden blades, fashioned a pistol to one, added poison... really, he facilitated killing through others seemingly without hesitation, and accepted fresh corpses for his own study. His love of nature has led him to a life of vegetarianism, often purchasing birds from Florentine(and later Venetian) markets only to let them go once they cross over into his possession. No comment is made towards this seeming contradiction.

Hiding under all this is an apparently deep-seated insecurity about his work. He often derides his creations as "meaningless" even when others might find them beautiful, and won't hesitate to throw blueprints into a fireplace if they don't meet his standards. He's expresses a desire to "change the world" as opposed to merely capturing it on canvas, and through this he is more than happy to offer his assistance readily in most cases.

From the point I'm taking him, he is still upbeat and optimistic about life, and although the workings of the Apple of Eden eluded him upon first inspection, the images became branded into his mind. Leonardo is always chasing a new idea, a new dream, and in his mind those dreams always seem to escape him, though by others his work is rightly treated as masterpiece. They say you're always your own worst critic, and that's absolutely true in this case.

His main role in Assassin's Creed II is to decode various Codex pages, though it's through this that he and Ezio Auditore become close friends. Crossing over into Brotherhood, it becomes obvious that he's perfectly willing to risk life and limb to help those he cares for, and although that chopping block isn't so close in II I still feel that it's relevant to his personality.

abilities/powers: Leonardo doesn't really have any "powers" in the traditional sense, but he picks up on trades and skills incredibly quickly and thoroughly. He can't throw fireballs, but give him three days and an espresso machine and he can probably figure out how to make sure you can. When he walks into the game for the first time he'll be limited to 15th century technological knowledge, but he probably won't stay that way for long.

first person sample: [A city. An abandoned city, even, with stores fully stocked and yet nary a clerk in sight. Eventually he's forced to steal clothes for himself, though it's not exactly his proudest moment.]

Leonardo, you know you are better than this... Stealing? Only for the barbaric.

[Yes, talking out loud helps.]

Well, I suppose it's a small price to pay. Can't run about naked after all... once I scrape together some Florins I can repay the shop, should it open. Oh, for want of a patron.

third person sample: Oh... oh. Computers? With the lack of a library, and the only written information detailed on worn pamphlets, a scholar like Leonardo was drawn almost involuntarily towards the electronics. He'd come in with absolutely no knowledge of this "modern" technology and as far as he was concerned that was to be rectified immediately.

Unfortunately, though, he saw no one in immediate sight. He took the opportunity to tinker with the electronics, but when nothing actually worked he couldn't help but feel frustrated.

"Ah... buon giorno? Is there anyone here?"

He was not so arrogant as to refuse help from someone familiar with the technology. Questions were simply a form of learning, and this was one of his favorite topics. If he could simply find someone familiar, they could teach him much.

"Such intricate design... what could it be for?" The only things that were keeping him from dismantling everything were common courtesy(it is a shop) and a general misunderstanding. What use is a machine that, in the process of reverse engineering, is destroyed before it can be made sense of?

It had never crossed his mind that the shop may be owned by someone who might recognize him after a bit. His own fame back home was something he tended to avoid, and this... Leonardo wasn't sure what this place was. Was he going to dig until he found out? Absolutely. But even a textbook Renaissance Man must have a starting place.
